Homework

Endorsed by the P & C in 2020 for commencement in 2021, Fernbrooke State School’s Homework Policy establishes guidelines for homework, including the amount of time students should spend on homework each week to help find a balance between family life and helping students reach their full potential.

Homework gives students the opportunity to build upon their classroom learning and involve family members in their learning.  All students in Prep to year 6 can access their Sound Waves, Wushka or Reading eggs accounts at home. Students in Years 1-6 are also able to access their Pr1me Mathematics accounts at home.

At Fernbrooke State School, we believe that homework is effective when:
  • is clearly related to class work,
  • is varied and differentiated to individual learning needs,
  • is monitored by class teacher.
The nature and amount of homework will vary from year level to year level.  The following is a guide only and any specific questions should be directed to the class teacher.

Homework Expectations

The completion of homework is strongly encouraged at Fernbrooke State School. Homework will take into consideration school events and will be consistent across each year level. Homework expectations will be communicated to parents and students.

How can parents and care givers support their children with homework?

Parents and caregivers can support their children by:
  • being familiar with the school homework policy
  • helping their children to organise their time and take responsibility for their learning (including balancing the amount of time spent on homework, television, computer games, sport and other recreational activities)
  • contacting teachers to discuss any concerns about the completion of homework
  • encouraging their children to read, and take an interest in and discuss current local, national and international events as well as what is happening at school

Fernbrooke State School’s Homework Policy is written in alignment with Education Queensland’s Homework Policy and Requirements.
