Curriculum Overview
In Year 3, our students are given opportunities to extend their learning through the Australian Curriculum. They communicate this learning through a variety of literacy and numeracy contexts whilst developing their independent learning skills. By the end of year 3, students will become more independent; they communicate with others more effectively.
Year 3 students explore the following subjects/topics:
English: Students will read and write about familiar content that relates to other learning areas. They will read more difficult texts on their own, such as chapter books and non-fiction information and can write in different styles. Students will recognidr and write texts that persuade and explain and use mostly correct grammar. They will engage in discussions to share ideas and information, communicating clearly with others.
- Mathematics: Students will further develop their understanding of
number, patterns and relationships, measurement and geometry. They will choose strategies to add, subtract, multiply and divide and recall multiplication facts. Students will measure and solve measurement problems as well as continuing to develop their problem solving and reasoning capabilities.
- Science: Students will develop their understanding about how science relates to their lives. They will pose and answer questions and investigate in a more
systematic way, developing understanding of a fair test and variables. Students will observe/investigate heat, Earth's orbit. forces, a range of ecosystems and develop their understanding that actions of humans can have an effect on their world..
- HASS: Students will draw on their growing experience of the community and beyond, and use observations and information sources to develop understandings about history, geography, civics and citizenship. They will esplore the diverse people, cultures and environments in Australia and neighbouring countries. Students will investigate the signficance of events such as ANZAC Day, Australia Day and Sorry Day. Students will explore
groups they belong to, and how people contribute to the community and the
environment through responsible actions.
- Technologies: Students will build on concepts, skills and processes developed in earlier years of Design and Technologies, and Digital Technologies. They will plan steps to produce solutions to problems and develop their time management skills. Students will explore a range of digital solutions and understand how to stay safe online.
